As the Kashmir valley continues to get buried in snow, five missing Indian soldiers remain untraceable in the snow avalanches in Gurez and Nowgam sector.
Three of the Army jawans posted in Baktore Nani in Gurez were reported missing after the area was hit by a snow avalanche. The two others were from Nowgam sector of Kupwara district.
Since Sunday night, the area has been experiencing heavy snowfall, which reached a height of almost five feet above the ground.
As of now, more rescue teams have been sent to the area to trace the missing soldiers.
It has been snowing heaving in hilly areas of Kashmir since the start of this week. Meteorology department in Srinagar believes the weather may improve from today afternoon.
The Kashmir valley continues to remain cut off from the rest of the country for the third consecutive day following closure of the 300km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway due to landslides triggered by rain.
However, about 130 vehicles stranded at Banihal were allowed to move towards Kashmir after the snow on the road was cleared last evening.
The historic Mugal road connecting Kashmir with Poonch and Rajouri has also been closed to vehicular traffic.
